Just like adults and teens, children need regular dental care. They are just as susceptible to developing tooth decay, gingivitis, and other oral health complications as others. With children’s dentistry, we can provide quality dental care in a safe and comfortable environment, helping your little ones maintain healthy, beautiful smiles.
What is Pediatric Dentistry?
Simply put, pediatric dentistry refers to any procedures designed to help kids and teens maintain optimal oral health. We recommend kids see the dentist once every six months for checkups, beginning when the first baby tooth erupts. During these visits, we will look for signs of tooth decay and monitor the eruption and loss of baby teeth. If your child begins to show signs of misalignment, we may suggest beginning early orthodontic treatment. As with adults, we offer dental restorations, such as fillings and crowns, to repair decayed or damaged teeth.
Does My Child Need Dental Sealants?
Some children have higher risk factors for developing cavities. For example, younger children often have difficulty reaching the back teeth when brushing and flossing. We can apply dental sealants to prevent food from becoming stuck between the molars. The sealants are a special plastic coating that will wear away with time.
We can also help strengthen your child’s natural defenses against cavities by applying a special fluoride treatment.
How do I Care for My Child’s Smile at Home?
We recommend children brush their teeth twice a day, in the morning and again at night, and floss each night before bed. Parents should brush their infants’ and toddlers’ teeth, and monitor their older children to make sure they are brushing correctly. Some children initially have an easier time with a floss pick but should eventually graduate to floss tape.
