What are Porcelain Veneers?

When making over your smile means addressing more than one issue (such as stained, chipped, and/or misaligned teeth), the prospect of smile improvement may seem daunting. The good news is that Dr. Petto Messina can often complete a full smile makeover in just one procedure.

With porcelain veneers, you can enjoy a brand new smile without the need for multiple cosmetic dental treatments. The wafer-thin shells of porcelain can be bonded directly to the front of your teeth, concealing their blemished surfaces underneath beautiful, lifelike porcelain veneers.

What are the benefits of porcelain veneers?

  • Because veneers are typically 0.5mm thick or less, tooth preparation is minimal. Dr. Petto Messina will sculpt the corresponding amount of enamel from your teeth while still preserving a maximum amount of healthy tooth structure.
  • The porcelain used for veneers blends with your natural dentition; is semi-translucent, like tooth enamel; and can be layered to reflect light in the same manner as your healthy teeth for highly realistic, nearly indistinguishable results.
  • Care for porcelain veneers the same as for your natural teeth. Brush twice a day, floss daily, and visit your dentist regularly for veneer maintenance and routine checkups and cleanings.

Are porcelain veneers permanent?

Because your teeth must be prepared for veneer placement, the procedure is irreversible, and you will need to continue wearing veneers to maintain your smile’s appearance. Fortunately, today’s modern veneers can last up to 10 years or more with proper care and maintenance. Also, replacing them requires less work since your teeth are already prepared for the new veneers.
