qabuttonredWe understand that when it comes to receiving a recommendation for a dental crown, you may have your questions. Actually, you might find that you end up with even more questions for us than you realized you could come up with for a single treatment! As we will always say to you, please let us know what’s on your mind. Answering your questions is a wonderful way for us to make sure you understand the care you’re receiving, so you can feel motivated about keeping your smile healthy. To help you get a head start on the details, we’re starting with a question-and-answer session.

Questions and Answers: Crowns

Question: Why have you chosen to provide me with a dental crown instead of a filling for my cavity? I thought tooth decay always required a dental filling.

Answer: Sometimes, decay is too severe for a filling. If your cavity is too big or has spread, we cannot use a filling. We can, however, remove the decay, rescue your tooth, and reestablish its structure with a crown.

Question: How long will my dental crown last? Am I going to have to be really careful about the types of foods I eat?

Answer: Fortunately, you can eat what you want! While we can’t predict exactly how long your crown is going to last, we can tell you that when you brush, floss, and maintain your care at our practice, you can expect it to extend the life of your crown. This prosthetic usually lasts anywhere from five years to upwards of 30!

Question: Is anyone going to be able to tell that I am wearing a dental crown? Will I have to hide this part of my smile, so nobody notices?

Answer: You don’t need to worry for a single second about the esthetics of your smile. Fortunately, we practice with the use of materials that provide the restorative care you need, while allowing your smile to appear healthy and natural.
